ITWeb is teaming up with First Technology and Dell EMC to run a hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI) survey.

The purpose of the survey to examine how much South African businesses know about HCI solutions and the role they can play in data centre modernisation.

"We want to establish how aware organisations are on how HCI can enable IT to be more agile in responding to the needs of business," says Gerhard Olivier, manager, Solution Consulting at First Technology.

Olivier says there are many benefits to having an HCI strategy in place.

"HCI is a software-defined infrastructure that combines compute, storage and data services in a single solution," says Olivier. As such, saves time that would otherwise be spent on installing and integrating different compute, storage and networking components, he adds.

"HCI enables 'cloud-like' IT agility and flexibility within an organisation - it improves scalability, simplifies management and reduces operational costs.

"Because HCI appliances are engineered systems specifically designed to support a recommended number of workloads, it makes the purchase decision easier for IT, as it leads to savings on management, planning and migrations costs," he concluded.
