Santam underwrites R150m of Global Technologies Insurance Divisions work

Johannesburg, 25 Apr 2001

Insurance giant Santam has underwritten more than R150m worth of policies administered by Brolink, an independent organisation within the Global Technology Insurance Division, since a partnership between the two companies was clinched in DATE.

"Since the signing of the deal, more than half of all Brolink`s business is now underwritten by Santam, thus indicating the value and size of the partnership," says Johan Mynhardt, portfolio analyst at Brolink.

Brolink offers a complete one stop service comprising of an advanced computerised policy management system through an internet-based insurance system that will enable its clients to offer insurance through an integrated system.

By using Global Technology Insurance Systems` Solutions (GTIS), intermediaries will be able to interact electronically with their clients, with Brolink forming the link between the brokers and insurers, enabling intermediaries and their clients to process transactions with multiple insurers.

"In addition to administering Santam`s policies, we are putting into effect a plan to make Santam`s range of products available on-line," says Mynhardt.

The Brolink solution is a fully integrated underwriting and claims system that is linked to a centralised database. By performing an insurance administrative function of personal lines portfolios on behalf of insurance companies, and operating as an extension of the insurer`s operation, this system underwrites management, policy administration, rate setting, claims management, statistical analysis of portfolios and the provision of information technology.

Insurers also draw direct benefits in the reduced administration cost; the statistical reports and the availability of an additional marketing channel for their products.

Brolink`s claims handling is centred in Centurion, Pretoria, with regional offices in Nelspruit, Durban, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. An office in Bloemfontein is currently under construction.

"As our branches communicate via a dedicated network, claims can be paid directly into the insured`s bank account, meaning that outlying areas can maintain the same service levels as the larger centres," concluded Mynhardt.

Brolink was established in February 1994, and currently administers 42 000 insurance policies on behalf of its brokers. Clients include Santam, First Central, General Accident, Guardian National and Hollard.
