A survey on Incident Response, being conducted in partnership with NClose, has gone live on ITWeb. The objective of the survey is to find out the current status of Security Operations Centres (SOCs) at South African organisations.

The survey seeks to uncover the pain points around outsourced SOC or Managed Detection and Response (MDR) functions, which value-adds are sought after in an outsourced SOC/MDR provider and how respondents feel about using AI in a SOC/MDR solution.

Martin Potgieter, Technical Director at NClose, says “We want to understand where people are in the process of setting up a SOC internally, because it seems that a lot of organisations are considering that now. Previously, this was limited to organisations that were fairly mature from a cyber security perspective.

“It’s important to understand what aspects matter when seeking out a SOC/MDR provider. Some people want 24/7 monitoring but don’t have a process to deal with escalations after-hours. Disparities such as this require addressing. We also want to gauge people’s satisfaction with their existing MDR and SOC providers.”

The third line of questioning explores what people aren’t happy with if they’re currently outsourcing. “This ties into the drivers behind choosing a provider and what they expect to get out of the partnership. Is this owing to a misalignment of expectations or just poor service from the SOC/MDR provider?”

In this survey, we also seek to uncover what is the most important part of the typical MDR function, what are the key drivers for building your own SOC and what is the most important aspect of incident response?

We hope you’ll be able set aside a few minutes of your time to participate in the survey, and stand a chance to win a lucky draw prize, a Takealot voucher to the value of R3 000. The detailed results of the survey, and the prize winner, will be published on ITWeb.
