Lotus, IBM back pro cycling team

Lotus Development SA, IBM SA and others, are sponsoring a professional cycling team to the tune of a million rand worth of products, professional training services and finances.

The IBM/Lotus Professional Cycling Team, led by the SA National Cycling Team Captain and Olympiad, Douglas Ryder, himself a member of the Lotus partner sales team, will consist of five other young, professional cyclists and Nigel Herbert, team manager.

Ryder says the team will boost awareness of both IBM and Lotus throughout the corporate sector as well as racing enthusiasts nationwide. "Ultimately we are going out there to do what we do best race among the best in the land."

"IBM and Lotus are thrilled to support young talented people in one of the fastest growing sports in South Africa," says Max McLaren, Lotus` newly appointed MD.

The company is also looking to pass on benefits to its business partners in the form of corporate branding opportunities, stemming from the high profile team, to new and existing markets.

Upcoming events include The Vodacom Rapport Tour, from 25 February to 6 March and the Giro del Capo Tour, running from the 10 to 14 March ending in the Argus Tour.

Sponsors include the Holiday Inn, Polar Heartrate Monitors, Giant Bicycles, Shimano Components, Power Clothing and Carerra sunglasses.
