Gates bids farewell

Bill Gates took the opportunity in his latest keynote address at the annual Consumer Electronics Show on Sunday to bid an early farewell to the industry, says Market Watch.

Microsoft has delivered the opening keynote for CES for the last eight consecutive years. But, as he already plans to step down from day-to-day involvement at the software giant this summer, Gates indicated that this will also be his last year kicking off the annual hi-tech extravaganza.

"This will be the first time since I was 17 that I haven't had my full time job at Microsoft," Gates said of his pending retirement, adding that he has mixed feelings about the move.

Philips targets women

Although men crave electronics, women actually make the buying decisions, according to Phillips, reports News.com.

Thus, the Dutch electronics maker is launching a campaign to appeal more to women, by making its electronics more fashion forward and elegant, said Andrea Ragnetti, the new CEO of Philips Electronics, at a press conference at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

To that end, it unveiled its Design Collection; a series of TVs, home audio systems and other equipment, which Philips says will make a statement about personal style.

Casio unveils super camera

Casio is expected to announce at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas the March sale of a digital still camera capable of shooting up to 60 full-resolution images in one second, and video at more than 1 000 frames per second to realise a super slow-motion effect, says PC World.

The high-speed shooting and super slow-motion features are a first in consumer cameras, being typically found on much more expensive and dedicated professional models.

Their inclusion in the Exilim Pro EX-F1 tops a two-year development project by Casio that sought to come up with just such a new feature, said Takashi Onoda, an engineer at Casio's research centre that developed the camera.
