Mobile operator Vodacom is having network connectivity issues across the country, leaving some customers frustrated.

According to Downdetector, user reports indicate problems at Vodacom with mobile phone, mobile Internet, SMS and voicemail to consumers and businesses.

The site shows the problems at Vodacom started at around 12:35pm today. It adds that the most reported areas are Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban and Cape Town.

According to Downdetector, the most reported problems are mobile phones (49%) and mobile Internet (39%), while 11% have reported a total blackout.

As customers took to social media to vent their anger, Vodacom this afternoon tweeted: “We are aware of the issue and we are working towards resolving it. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

However, the mobile operator did not elaborate on the exact causes of the outage.

In another tweet, the company said: “We are having voice and data issues across the country. We are working hard to resolve this. We will let you know once this issue has been resolved.”

Said one irate customer on Twitter: “@Vodacom111 are you having signal issues? I can’t make or receive calls.”

Said another: “@Vodacom WiFi dongle up and down all day today Fourways area! What's up?” [sic]

Another one tweeted: “Someone is sleeping on duty at Vodacom...The network is down. I’m in the Joburg CBD and there is no network at all!”

In a statement to ITWeb, the telco says: “Vodacom has isolated the fault that caused intermittent connectivity issues and services are currently being restored. We thank customers for their patience and apologise for the inconvenience that this may have caused.”

Update:

Late in the afternoon, Vodacom indicated the issue had been resolved saying: "Vodacom has resolved the fault that caused some customers to experience intermittent connectivity earlier this afternoon.

"We thank you for your patience and apologise for the inconvenience that this caused."
