View your payslip online through Oracle SelfService

Johannesburg, 26 Sep 2000

Oracle SA has enabled South African employees to view their payslips online. This is as a result of the localisation of Oracle`s web-based Human Resource applications, and the Oracle SelfService v3.3 Sun Solaris 11.03 HRMS, a self-service web application.

According to HRMS product manager at Oracle SA, Gerhard Stegmann, the company has localised this application for the South African HRMS market and developed an On-Line Payslip for employees.

"This is believed to be the only localised version of the SelfService product," he maintains.

Stegmann explains that Oracle SA`s On-Line Payslip enables employees to view and print their own payslips - current or past. The product can potentially save organisations huge administrative costs.

"Oracle`s Web based HR applications create a new business paradigm, which empowers employees to perform HR information processing tasks previously assigned to trained administrative staff. Employees can perform a variety of self-service functions, such as update their address and contact details without paperwork or costly intervention.

"In addition, line managers can act on recruiting decisions with unprecedented speed as everything from routing approvals to generating the offer letter is done electronically. The Skills Gap Analyses, for instance, can be performed on either applicants or employees to determine whether an applicant fits the requirements of the vacancy or to identify important gaps in the abilities of employees."

Stegmann says the On-Line Payslip displays the payment methods in current use, such as, cheque, cash, or bank transfer methods. All pay periods are included making this useful for things like tax reconciliations.

Traditionally, companies have relied on trained administrative staff to bridge the gap between business systems and the people the systems were designed to serve. Today the web lets any authorised user access multimedia rich information stored in any business system using a standard web browser.

"Providing secure, direct access to systems is the fundamental premise of the self-service business model," maintains Stegmann.

He points out that Oracle`s Financial and HR Self Service Solutions allow authorised employees using a browser to perform common business functions, such as creating and approving expense reports, placing requisitions, and updating personal HR information. This Oracle offering speeds decision-making and reduces the operational infrastructure required to support employees.

"It is tightly integrated with Oracle Workflow, which automatically routes requisitions and expense reports for approval, allows managers to approve them on-line, and then automatically sends confirmations to requesters. In addition, Oracle Workflow automatically notifies managers of key occurrences, such as an employee creating an unusually large number of requisitions. The 360 degree Assessment Methodology is also fully supported"

Oracle SA`s own employees, are currently using Oracle`s Web Expenses to claim travel and entertainment expenses online. "Oracle Corporation is rolling out SelfService worldwide with all its own applications internally, and has saved over $1billion since the start of this project.

"Oracle SA ultimately intends to enable Oracle employees to use their new localised product and view their payslips online," Stegmann adds.
