Hyperion adds multi-tasking features to Essbase

Johannesburg, 15 Mar 1999

In a move that provides organisations with enhanced enterprise OLAP (online analytical processing) capabilities, Hyperion Solutions has delivered a new version of Hyperion Essbase OLAP Server.

The market-leading cross-platform enterprise OLAP server, Essbase`s new version delivers increased performance, scalability, deployability and openness required to implement enterprise-class analytic applications.

Mark Williams, MD of local distributor Global Technology Business Intelligence, says the new version of Essbase delivers performance and scalability enhancements "to address the needs of customers with thousands of end-users accessing analytic applications with hundreds of GB of data across distributed or centralised environments".

"The new capabilities allow Essbase simultaneously to load, calculate and query partitioned OLAP applications in parallel," says Williams. "Our customers can now deploy analytic applications far larger than previously possible."

Hyperion has leveraged alliance partnerships with leading Unix systems vendors to optimise the performance and scalability of Hyperion Essbase on Unix. Following more than a year of development, Essbase 5.0.2 delivers performance improvements of up to 50% on Unix. Essbase is the world record holder for the industry-standard APB-1 OLAP benchmark on Unix.

Increased flexibility

In addition to tight integration with MicrosoftExcel, the new version of Essbase delivers native support for Lotus 1-2-3 Millennium Edition. Lotus 1-2-3 support extends the analysis capabilities in the Essbase Spreadsheet Add-In, such as read and write access, flexible data navigation and visual cues, to more than 10 million Lotus 1-2-3 users.

In addition to Lotus 1-2-3, Essbase customers can choose from more than 50 Essbase-Ready client/server and Web-based development, reporting and analysis tools and packaged analytic applications that are integrated with Essbase.
