Africa Data Holdings signs exclusive contract with Telkom

Johannesburg, 06 Jul 2001

Africa Data Holdings, South Africa`s leading supplier of ISDN technologies and solutions, is proud to announce that it has signed a two-year contract with Telkom SA to exclusive supply South Africa`s single telecommunications provider with TurboAccess ISDN solutions. The deal, which is estimated to be worth in excess of R25-million, is set to expand the ISDN capabilities in South Africa.

Comments Ben de Klerk, ISDN product manager, Telkom SA, "TurboAccess will cross all borders of the Telkom customer base and offer solution to our corporate, business and residential sectors. It has been designed to provide a single point of contact to enhance our ISDN offerings and allow our customers to utilise functionalities within ISDN that previously they may have not been aware of."

Says Graham Perry, chief executive office, Africa Data Holdings: "Our relationship with Telkom has, and always will be, strategically important to us as we provide synergies to each other`s businesses. For a number of years we have been working with Telkom to provide more efficient and cost effective ISDN technology solutions in South Africa. As the sole supplier of TurboAccess to the South African and African markets, Africa Connect, an Africa Data Holdings` company is now able to supply ISDN solutions, including hardware, technical and user support, to Telkom. "

TurboAccess, the latest product in the telecommunications market, which provides ISDN functionalities, utilises Telkom`s ISDN service. With the world becoming a `global village`, it is essential that businesses have access to faster and more efficient means in which to correspond with local and international clients. With this increase in demand, Telkom has predicted that the ISDN service will continue to grow from strength to strength in the coming years.

As ISDN was traditionally used for voice communications, the TurboAccess was introduced to provide new features, benefits and functionalities to the ISDN service. Originally conceived as an Internet access product, TurboAccess was capable of providing Internet access from 64k to 2Meg as a dial-up digital connection.

"Since its launch, TurboAccess has undergone a number of software development improvements. We are extremely pleased with results it has achieved to date, and expect to see an increased demand for TurboAccess` services this coming year. We have already started to further enhance the product range with some exciting software packages that will improve the current range of hardware platforms. These additions include Small Office Home Office (SOHO) automation, corporate fax server and remote access servers. We will shortly looking to expand the range to include unified messaging gateways, mass file transfer, monitored Internet control and software call centres," concludes Perry.
