Former Samsung MD Deon Liebenberg joins Vodacom's executive troop today, after less than four months with Telkom.

In his new role, as managing executive for Vodafone Global Enterprise (VGE) and international business, Liebenberg will manage the VGE portfolio, which serves Vodafone's largest multinational customers across Vodacom's operations in sub-Saharan Africa.

VGE operates as a single integrated business worldwide and is responsible for the sales and service relationship with over 1 500 global customers.

According to Vuyani Jarana, chief officer of Vodacom Business, Liebenberg's international business portfolio includes steering the growth and direction of Vodacom Business Africa (VBA). "VBA provides customers with a wide portfolio of enterprise ICT solutions across Africa. These range from pure access solutions to fully outsourced managed network services and managed hosted services."

Roving career

After a year as MD for Samsung Electronics in SA, Liebenberg took up a position last July as managing executive for Telkom Business Mobile, where he was responsible for driving strategy and execution for all mobile activities in Telkom Business.

Just less than four months later, in November, news emerged of Liebenberg's resignation - shortly after Telkom CEO Nombulelo "Pinky" Moholi handed in her notice. Vodacom confirmed at the time that Liebenberg would join the company, where he had previously headed the sales division, but could not give details.

Liebenberg has also previously headed up BlackBerry's sub-Saharan African and fulfilled the role of country sales director at Motorola.

Jarana says Liebenberg has a "wealth of industry experience".
