Cape Town-based SNAPnSAVE has given back R2 million to users in the form of cash-back since its launch in 2015.

The app reinvented the traditional savings coupon by making it easier and more discreet. Once the app has been downloaded, users browse for special offers and 'book' them. After they have bought the product, shoppers take a picture of their till slip and upload it to claim savings.

The savings go into an e-wallet on the app which users can have deposited into their account or spend at other shops.

How it works:

1. Users search for deals in the discover section of the SNAPnSAVE app or on the Web site.

2. Once a deal is found, the user needs to book it.

3. The user then has 48 hours to buy the product and upload the till slip to the app.

4. The savings will be processed and placed in the user's e-wallet within a few days.

5. Once savings have built up, the user requests a wiCode that will act as cash when used at a participating retailer, or get the money deposited directly into a bank account.

The app is free to download from the Google Play store or Apple Store.

According to SNAPnSAVE's head of marketing, Roger Bezuidenhout, some consumers last year saved over R3 000.

"We even have some consumers, over their SNAPnSAVE lifetime, who have earned over R10 000," he says.
