Nakivo Backup & Replication v7.4 has been launched to most global markets, including SA.

Global virtualisation and cloud backup software company Nakivo has released the seventh version of its backup and replication solution to the local market.

The release is part of the worldwide launch of v7.4 Backup & Replication, which has 11 new features that aim to simplify disaster recovery.

The US-based firm has a global presence, with over 2 600 channel partners in 124 countries, including South Africa, Zimbabwe and Mozambique.

According to Nakivo, v7.4 allows for recovering accidentally deleted or corrupted files directly to their source virtual machine (VM) or a different location. The recovery is also said to be quick and performed from duplicated backups and avoids having to recover the entire virtual machine first.

Bruce Talley, CEO of Nakivo, says the release takes customer feedback into account. "We also work to make the product more user-friendly and convenient."

The updated version includes automated VM failover, which can help restore business activities in case of disaster without unnecessary delays.

The company states the automated VM failover is performed by first replicating VMs to the disaster recovery location and then running a single failover job. "As a result, the workloads are transferred to the location near-instantly, minimising downtime. The process is fully automated with the help of network mapping and re-IP rules, which eliminate the need for manual reconfiguration of replicas."

Other features include bandwidth throttling, where the system uses the available bandwidth to run jobs at the highest speed possible but also simultaneously allows network administrators to set limits on a per-job basis during working hours.

"We have also added a global search feature that facilitates finding any item, such as a job, a repository, or a transporter. There is also the option to instantly perform individual or bulk actions on such items directly from the search results page."

Enhanced features include screenshot verification for hyper-V, enhanced Amazon elastic compute cloud instance backup, instant recovery of Microsoft SQL Server objects and live technical support via chat.
