Since the launch of Newland ID SA back in 2015, the company has made great strides across southern Africa. Newland ID SA is a sister company of Tactile Technologies, which was established in 2001, and has an impressive reputation within the touch-screen industry.
But the time has come for Newland ID to go it alone. As such, Tactile Technologies will be taking a step back. According to Mauro Mercuri, group director, the decision comes with a number of changes.
For starters, Tactile will no longer take on new business for Newland products. We believe this removes any perceptions of competition between Tactile and the Newland channel, he explains.
In addition to this, existing accounts will be handed over to other Newland resellers, where possible. In circumstances where this is not possible, Newland ID's channel manager will step in to ensure that no Newland resellers are affected. We do acknowledge that there are a limited number of accounts that will remain, either because they are long-term Tactile accounts or because Newland products form part of the Tactile POS bundle. In these situations, the greatest care will be taken to ensure that there, these remaining accounts are handled with the utmost professionalism.
Finally, we're excited to announce that Newland ID is getting a resources boost. Our sales capacity is being expanded and we've also identified the need for a product manager; a role that will be filled in the near future. In line with this, Newland ID is also getting a new home. We will be moving into our own premises in the first half of 2019, he continues.
"Newland ID SA has shown the last few years that it is ready to stand on its own feet. Revenue is growing, brand recognition is growing and the size of our channel is growing," he concludes. "We want to eliminate any hurdles out there that might stand in the way of future Newland growth. Creating this distance between Newland ID SA and Tactile Technologies is one hurdle less for sure."
