Stephen Morony joins Huge as commercial director

JSE-listed telecommunications specialist Huge Group has appointed Stephen Morony as commercial director of its subsidiary Huge Telecom.

The appointment is effective from this week.

The group says Morony is a top-level commercial executive with 20 years of experience in the telecommunications industry and holds a Bachelor of Commerce Informatics degree from UNISA and an MBA from the University of the Witwatersrand Graduate School of Business.

Commenting on the appointment, Rob Burger, managing director of Huge Telecom, says: “We know we have a winner in GSM full suite telephony. We want to capitalise on the Huge opportunity what we have with full suite telephony and Stephen is the calibre of person that can help us achieve our objectives.”

Andy Openshaw, Huge Group chief operating officer, says: “Stephen has an entrepreneurial flair and a proven track record for consistently exceeding growth targets, specifically in new business areas. We believe Stephen is the calibre of person that adds further scale to Huge Group’s executive team and in particular at Huge Telecom.”

Previously, Morony worked for Acer Africa as a retail and business development manager, at Neotel as a specialist in corporate strategy and Ericsson as regional director of strategy for Sub-Saharan Africa, before joining Cell C in 2014, where he headed up the management of Cell C’s mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) business.

At Cell C, his role included the legal and commercial negotiations relating to the onboarding of MVNOs, the analysis and interrogation of their business strategies, market segmentation, product offerings and go-to-market strategies.
