HP, AMD move to empower the way remote employees work

Johannesburg, 30 Oct 2020

HP and AMD’s collaboration, AMD Ignite, is moving to overcome the challenges emerging in the newly remote workforce at scale.

The partnership addresses key issues facing remote workforces, including performance challenges, security and manageability, business continuity and the overall work-from-anywhere experience.

AMD notes that empowering remote workers starts by addressing the business continuity, productivity and security risks presented by inferior quality devices.

Key remote workforce risks

Older generation PCs are not enabled with modern security applications that detect security threats before they happen. One would have to buy security software separately and install it on their PCs to protect their confidential information, and even then, the protection is not as responsive. Remote workers using these PCs pose a serious risk to businesses because they offer criminals a gap into the businesses’ important data and maybe competitive advantages. If such information lands on the wrong hands, it could be used to strengthen competitors or for financial distortion. Cyber attacks also negatively affect productivity because if devices are attacked, they are sometimes unworkable, meaning productive hours lost for the workforce.

Increased network attacks targeting home WiFi networks and VPNs, phishing using coronavirus-themed domains that lead to malicious sites, visual privacy breaches and productivity impacts are a few threats during these times of vulnerability.

Improving digital security

While the current situation necessitates rigour around personal hygiene, the need for healthy digital security practices remains equally high to ensure employee and organisational safety alike. This is because the world is simultaneously witnessing unprecedented numbers of professionals working remotely, in most cases from within the confines of their home. IT decision-makers, IT security experts and IT admins need to incorporate best practices for working remotely using HP capabilities that come standard with modern PCs.

Anyone who makes a hardware purchasing decision – however small or large – will have an influence on the security posture of the business for years to come.

The enterprise CISO, who usually looks after the security of operations, needs to get involved much earlier at the IT equipment and hardware procurement step: setting security requirements and making sure that security is a key parameter of the purchasing decision.

Beyond the security of the devices themselves, the endpoint security challenge for organisations lies with security management.

Companies need to keep all the devices on their network up to date with the latest software and firmware, and in compliance with a good security configuration policy. In addition, they need to deploy, manage and monitor security software that’s appropriate to their business needs.

To protect the business over the long run, it is crucial to also have a data and device recovery strategy, ensuring they can bring the infrastructure and the business back up and running when things go wrong.

AMD Ignite addresses continuity, risk

HP and AMD have a long and highly collaborative relationship, offering remarkably designed PCs with leading processor technology. By driving capability and performance, we are delivering long battery life while offering a broad quality-tested portfolio.

Security and manageability features from HP include an always-on, always-acting, resilient defence that is easily managed. From the BIOS to the browser, above and below the OS, these constantly evolving, no-compromise solutions allow for quick and easy integration into the customer environment.

Broad adoption of HP and AMD PCs extends IT budgets for better experiences that adapt to any working environment. Working at the office, home or anywhere in between, these savings can be applied to purchase upgraded components like docks, monitors, memory, storage and other features that delight end-users and IT alike.

HP and AMD are committed to long-term planned processor availability for deployment and image stability, providing peace of mind to IT decision-makers.
