Enhanced flagship certificate programme in business analysis

By Faculty Training Institute
Cape Town, 20 May 2013

An enhanced Certificate Programme in Business Analysis has been launched by Faculty Training Institute (FTI). The new-look certificate programme is aimed at aspiring business analysts who need to develop a good foundation and competence in the essential skills and techniques of the profession.

The programme, which has been expanded to run over five months, covers the first half of the syllabus that leads towards the highly respected FTI Diploma in Business Analysis. Completion of the certificate programme will satisfy part of the requirements for the National Certificate in Business Analysis at level 6 on the South African National Qualification Framework (full accreditation pending).

The Certificate Programme in Business Analysis, now in its fifth year, is a groundbreaking offering aimed at new or intermediate business analysts, and imparts a good knowledge and the fundamental techniques used by professional business analysts to produce business cases, proposals, functional or user requirements specifications.

The course is endorsed by the International Institute of Business Analysis and counts for 99 Continuing Professional Development Units (CDUs) towards the internationally recognised CBAP and CCBA certifications.

The new certificate course blends the best of FTI's out-going certificate programme and elements of FTI's signature Diploma in Business Analysis. It provides more in-depth content around the core function of requirements management and the skills that a business analyst needs when working with groups and individual stakeholders on projects. It also contains an increased focus on the diverse set of thinking skills a business analyst needs to apply.

According to Simon Hill, Business Analysis Programme Manager at FTI: "The Certificate Programme in Business Analysis includes more assessments that confirm the level of knowledge of delegates throughout the course. "This will provide more opportunities for delegates to demonstrate proficiency across all knowledge areas of the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge (BABOK Guide)."

The certificate programme has been remodelled to keep pace with the profession's international industry standards and to meet the demands and challenges of the organisations and markets that FTI serves," says Steve Erlank, FTI CEO. The new-look format now offers various practicable delivery formats for in-company and international training. In-house courses can be co-branded and content and schedules can be customised to meet clients' needs.

The certificate is part of a greater roll-out plan of business analysis (BA) instruction at FTI. The certificate programme and other BA-focused courses are in line with FTI's strategy to bolster its training portfolio and increase the skills that are needed for the success of the industry," says Erlank.

The revamped certificate programme will be presented in its new format from 3 July in Cape Town, and 25 July in Johannesburg.
