Symantec intros mobile strategy

Barcelona, 06 Oct 2010

Symantec has boosted its mobile and management strategy by unveiling a broad approach, to provide mobile security solutions covering enterprises, consumers and communications service providers alike.

At the Symantec Vision 2010 conference, held in Barcelona this week, the company also said it would add iPhone, iPad and Android support to its existing platform, to help its customers manage and protect mobile devices.

With the number of devices that connect to the Internet increasing exponentially, Symantec says its strategy is to secure and manage any mobile device anytime, anywhere. Francis deSouza, senior vice-president, of Symantec's Enterprise Security Group, said during his keynote address that new mobile device shipments are expected to increase by 55% in 2010.

“Symantec's mission is to secure people and information through identity, protection and context, and our broad approach to mobile security and management is a key extension of protection for all of our customers,” said deSouza.

“By providing mobile security and management for smart devices, we're making it easier for enterprises to allow their employees to use their device of choice, without putting corporate at risk.”

He said the line between personal and business use of devices is blurring, and that people are increasingly using the same devices for both. This shift in behaviour may boost productivity, but it also brings new security and management challenges.

According to deDouza, Symantec is the first and only vendor to offer all three groups - enterprises, consumers and communication service providers - mobile security and management solutions that can scale from just one to millions of users.

The company's solutions for enterprise mobile security and management include products for device management, device security, device encryption and strong authentication.
