Nintendo Network for Wii U unveiled
El33tonline reports.
The Nintendo Network aims to provide users the opportunity to not only purchase and download full 3DS and Wii U games, but will also serve as a means to deliver downloadable content.
According to Game Industry News, unlike the WiFi system used by Nintendo now, accounts will no longer be based per system using friend codes and such, but instead will be based per user, like Xbox Live and PSN. This set-up will make it easy for each household to have multiple accounts on one system, making it possible for multiple family members to utilise the same console.
Unveiling the service in a briefing to investors, Nintendo president Sartoru Iwata said: "We are also considering the future possibility of digital distribution of packaged software, which is often referred to as 'software download sales'," Videogamer.com notes.
"This concept was built into the design of the Nintendo 3DS, and we already have the necessary infrastructure. We will prepare the same infrastructure for the Wii U. However, we have not decided the concrete timing of when we will start it."
