Local Apple distributor, Core Group, has announced that the fourth generation iPad will go on sale in SA this weekend. Core Group also says the iPad Mini will be available locally "soon".
Consumers were surprised by the appearance of the next generation iPad at the iPad Mini event in October - just months after the release of the third generation iPad. The latest iteration features the same Retina display (which Apple says has over 3.1 million pixels) as its predecessor but also has an A6 processor which essentially doubles the performance.
The iPad Mini is Apple's first departure from the 10-inch tablet form factor. Apple says, with a 7.9-inch display, the iPad Mini is essentially a smaller iPad and is not a "compromised" product. The iPad Mini has the same resolution as the iPad 2 and an A5 processor.
The local recommended pricing for the devices is as follows:
iPad 4 | iPad Mini | |
16GB WiFi | R5 199 | R3 399 |
16GB WiFi + Cellular | R6 499 | R4 799 |
32GB WiFi | R6 399 | R4 499 |
32GBWiFi + Cellular | R7 499 | R5 899 |
64GB WiFi | R7 399 | R5 499 |
64GBWiFi + Cellular | R8 599 | R6 999 |
Core Group says it can only suggest retail prices and resellers are free to determine final pricing. At the end of October, the local pricing for the third generation iPad was dropped following the iPad 4 announcement. Those pricing details can be seen here.
