Barry Hore, Nedcor`s executive director of technology and operations, has joined a select few as one of the World Economic Forum`s 100 Global Leaders for Tomorrow.
The World Economic Forum (WEF) annually selects 100 young leaders from business, politics, the arts and other fields to form part of the network. Only 18 South Africans have been conferred with the honour, and Hore is the first technology executive among these. Other South Africans have included Trevor Manuel, Jay Naidoo and Tito Mboweni.
Others in the group have included Jeff Bezos of Amazon.com and Christopher Hassett, the chairman of PointCast.
The network of leaders serves as a forum where ideas and initiatives can be exchanged.
Hore joined Nedcor in 1983 and became the head of IT in 1991. He subsequently became the divisional director of the technology and operations division in 1997 and was appointed as an executive director in November this year.
"We are thrilled an executive of Nedcor has been chosen as one of the top 100 global leaders," says Richard Laubscher, chief executive of Nedcor. "Hore`s selection as a Global Leader for Tomorrow is well deserved recognition of his talent, capability and achievement, and is a mark of his considerable influence and responsibility in his field."
The World Economic Forum began as an informal gathering of European leaders in 1971, initiated by Klaus Schwab, a professor of Business Administration. Meetings are held under the auspices of the European Management Forum, a non-profit organisation.
