Microsoft will buy Navision software for about $1.45 billion in stock and cash following yesterday`s close of the tender offer. As a result of the acquisition, first announced in May, Navision will become part of Microsoft Business Solutions.
"Combining the businesses of Navision ... and Microsoft Great Plains to create Microsoft Business Solutions will produce superb business opportunities for our partners and an outstanding array of solutions for our customers," says Doug Burgum, senior VP of Microsoft and former CEO of Great Plains, which was also recently acquired by Microsoft for its Business Solutions operations.

"Together, we have the people, products and technologies to bring to life Microsoft`s mission of enabling people and businesses around the globe to realise their full potential," says Bergum.
Navision co-CEOs Jesper Balser and Preben Damgaard will remain with Microsoft Business Solutions. Balser will become director of global strategy and Damgaard will become director of Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) operations. The EMEA operations will be run from Navision`s corporate headquarters in Vedbaek, Denmark.
"Through a direct presence in EMEA and by working closely with our network of partners, we will be able to ensure that the needs of customers in this extensive and diverse market are met with relevant technology," says Damgaard.
Locally, Navision representatives welcomed the original announcement of the acquisition. Navision South Africa MD Keith Mullan said he was "very pleased with Microsoft`s offer. By joining forces, both companies enhance their ability to develop and deliver high-value business solutions that will enable organisations to integrate more effectively with their customers, partners, employees and suppliers."
Microsoft Business Solutions has committed itself to continue developing, marketing and supporting Navision`s business applications, including Axapta, Attain, C5 and XAL.
