Dimension has acquired a 51% stake in Nigerian IT solutions and services company Roe, forming Dimension Data Nigeria.

DiData CEO Brett Dawson announced at the interim results in April that the company was looking to expand into Africa, by partnering and opening hubs in west and north-east Africa.

"The acquisition gives DiData added strength within the Nigerian market in terms of local knowledge and skills," says DiData Nigeria MD David Kruyt.

"Our skills base, combined with the IT solutions and services that we offer, ensures we can provide both Nigerian companies and international organisations that are establishing themselves in Nigeria with technology solutions that deliver."

Ositah Egbuche, new chairman of DiData Nigeria, formerly managing at Roe, says the partnership has led to the formation of the largest systems integrator in Nigeria.

"The opportunities in this country are enormous and the demand for IT solutions and services from established companies as well as new entrants affords Dimension Data Nigeria the potential for considerable growth," he adds.

According to the Nigerian government, this is not going to be the only such partnership. "The Nigerian government will continue to encourage partnership between the private sector in SA and Nigeria," says the country`s vice-president, Atiku Abubakar.

"DiData has a lot to offer the Nigerian economy and we will look at ways of tapping into SA`s technology base through companies like DiData."
