Intel optical receiver

Intel is speeding up connectivity with the release of a 10Gbps optical transceiver for networks. The Multi-mode XPAK optical transceiver gives users 10Gb Ethernet and Fibre Channel speeds at a price and size a third of previous transceivers, says Intel.

The real driver behind the new transceiver is the centre, which is mostly equipped with multi-mode already. In addition is the fact that multi-mode fibre is lower than single mode. The high-speed capabilities of multi-mode make it a winner in the data centre environment where data is transmitted relatively short distances.

Virus writers obsessed with sex

TheRegister is reporting that according to Sophos consultant Graham Cluley, virus writers are obsessed with sex and computer games. Cluley says virus writers are more likely to be teenage males than crack cyber-terrorists intent on destroying the and big business.

Cluley`s comments fly in the face of Hollywood romantic notions of virus writers as evil geniuses and the US-led image of them as terrorists charged with the goal of bringing down the Western world. He also says the idea that viruses will bring down critical systems is nonsense because e-mail-transmitted viruses are "easy" to defend against. Cluley is no stranger to controversy and antagonistic behaviour towards virus writers. He has been previously quoted as saying that the only reason they write viruses is because they are spotty nerds who can`t get girlfriends.
