Symantec puts locks on ISA server
Symantec today released Symantec AntiVirus for Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server, which will provide scalable and reliable virus detection and repair for HTTP, FTP and SMTP traffic served through ISA Server. The company says the product will be available in December.
AV for ISA includes an extensible firewall and Web cache server that integrates with Windows 2000 to provide policy-based security. Patrick Evans, regional manager for Africa, says the product is targeted at organisations of various sizes and protects the outermost perimeter of the network from Internet threats.
What makes the product so attractive, says Evans, is the ability for administrators to configure alerts to warn of threats as well as check for threats in all major file types, including compressed formats. AV for ISA is specifically designed to filter HTTP, FTP and SMTP.
RealOne for Mac OS X
If you are a Macintosh user, you`ll be pleased to know that RealNetworks has almost finalised RealOne player for Mac OS X. The latest and final beta version has been released by the company and encompasses nearly all of the features Windows users are accustomed to. These include RealOne SuperPass, which gives Mac users access to premium subscription content, and support for RealOne RadioPass, the online premium radio service.
Clearly Macintosh users are eager for the latest product, because 55 000 copies were downloaded in the 24 hours after the initial beta of RealOne was announced at MacWorld in July. To date, there have been more than 800 000 downloads of the beta versions.
Mandrake Linux for Xbox
TheRegister reports that the Xbox Linux Project has released its first full distribution for the Xbox, based on Mandrake`s latest release 9.0. The group, which has already released a number of tools and documents for installing SuSE and Debian on an Xbox, says it decided to go with Mandrake because it is a simpler and more up to date distribution.
The project says it "wanted to provide the most modern distribution available". Mandrake also installs on the Xbox with the least number of modifications, says the group.
Of course, installing Linux on an Xbox is still not exactly straightforward, even with Mandrake. You`ll need a modified Xbox and a USB mouse and keyboard which you`ll need to connect using a self-built USB adapter. So, as long as you have a soldering iron, a Mandrake disk and the time, you may succeed. [TheRegister]
