JSE-listed Beget Holdings and Namibia`s Ianitor International have in a joint venture established a "small message service" centre in the Seychelles.
An agreement has been signed with telecommunications provider AirTel, in terms of which GSM software specialist Ianitor supplied the centre as a national and international hubbing service.
The centre incorporates Beget`s bulk short message service (SMS) software, SMSmalls.
Beget says the deal is part of a "massive international drive" and the first major deal since its JSE listing last month.
Installation, commissioning and testing took less than a week and the centre, created specifically for bulk SMS, is fully operational.
AirTel is partly owned by Indian telecoms company Bharti Group and has international roaming agreements with 115 operators in 55 countries.
"Part of the agreement is that for each SMS sent by AirTel internationally, Beget receives a royalty fee, therefore generating foreign exchange," says Beget financial director Johan Coetzee.
He says Beget is in talks with several other countries with GSM service providers to expand its international roll-out plans.
