More and more companies are doing away with desktop printers as the arguments in favour of standalone multifunctional devices (MFPs) become more compelling. To meet the growing demand for MFPs, Bidvest Group company, Minolta South Africa has introduced two new monochrome MFPs, the 50 page per minute (ppm) Konica Minolta bizhub 500 and the 42ppm bizhub 420.

Both machines provide high quality printing, copying, scanning and faxing, combined with advanced document handling and information sharing capabilities.

Minolta South Africa copier division product manager, Paul Symonds, says both models cater to mid-volume print environments. "They are ideal central document output devices for users in large departments or mid-sized companies," he says.

Both machines provide a variety of finishing functions such as multiple stapling positions, hole punching and saddle stitching for booklet production. Separate paper cabinet configurations and a large capacity unit are available, giving maximum capacity of up to 5 650 A4 sheets.

The optional IC-204 Image Controller comes with PCL and PostScript 3 page description languages for use in both Windows and Macintosh environments. Both models are capable of 1 200 x 600dpi copy resolution with smoothing and 2 400 x 600dpi print resolution with smoothing, and make use of Konica Minolta`s Simitri toner for sharp details and fine gradations.

An optional Super G3 fax kit allows both models to send and receive faxes over a conventional telephone line directly from the system that handles all documentation. Both machines are designed to be data storage and sharing centres, allowing users to save documents in the optional hard drive for access by others or distribution via FTP, SMB or e-mail. Scan and send functions allow users to distribute documents over the network directly from scanning.

All data is kept secure by features such as individualised access privileges and usage limits, user and group authorisation, HDD password lock and SSL encryption for network communication. The optional mailbin kit allows output to be distributed into separate bins, helping to prevent documents from being misplaced or mixed up.
