Apple price cuts possible

Apple is reportedly mulling a new round of price cuts for two of its flagship Macintosh computer models, vnunet reports.

According to the Mac news site, Apple Insider, the company is looking to cut prices for both notebooks and desktops.

The site credits unnamed but “extremely reliable” sources in reporting that the company would drop the price of both the 13-inch MacBook consumer notebook along with certain iMac desktop models.

Windows 7 for all

While Microsoft will allow manufacturers to install Windows 7 Starter on low-cost netbooks, Windows GM Mike Ybarra says all versions of Windows 7 may work on many netbooks, according to Sci-Tech Today.

Windows 7 has a smaller footprint than Windows Vista, but Microsoft advised buyers to think before deciding between a netbook and a notebook.

Some bloggers have been insisting Microsoft Relevant Products/Services has a hidden agenda for its Windows 7 release.

Netbooks' fate tied to economy

When gasoline spiked to $4 per gallon a few years back, Hummer salesmen were crying in their coffee while Toyota couldn't make the Prius fast enough, according to internetnews.

Market researcher iSuppli thinks something similar is bound to happen to the netbook and notebook worlds.

Netbooks, the smaller, less expensive portable devices that typically sell for under $300, are thriving in these otherwise dismal economic times, but when the economy recovers, it could be netbooks that slow.
