E3 expo reveals 'controller wars'

The E3 expo in Los Angeles, where more than 100 companies showcased the latest in entertainment hardware and software, has closed its doors for the last time in 2009, reports BBC News.

More than 30 000 people attended the three-day event and the three big console manufacturers - Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo - introduced their latest controllers.

The show saw a return to form, after it was scaled back in 2007. "There was a lot of energy and publisher optimism at this year's show," Piers Harding-Rolls, senior analyst with Screen Digest, told the BBC.

Sony intros PSP Go

Sony has unveiled the latest version of the PlayStation Portable, the PSP Go, according to Which.

Introduced at the E3 conference in the US, the PSP Go was announced as “one of the worst kept secrets” of the convention, as news and images about the product had been leaked onto the Internet the previous week.

The new handheld games console does away with the disc-based UMD format of previous models, and instead relies solely on games and moves being downloaded directly to the unit from Sony's PlayStation store.

Wii tech shapes up

The Nintendo Wii 'Your Shape' fitness game, unveiled by Ubisoft at the E3 expo, will ship with a camera that tracks your body shape and movements, so you don't need a controller to get fit, says Mirror.co.uk.

The new camera for the Wii and our 'body ' technology means Your Shape will offer an experience that is a breakthrough in gaming, as well as in the fitness category,” said Yves Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft.

Your Shape tracks your body movements, showing on-screen how they reflect the workout you're meant to be doing. The camera also is capable of monitoring subtle gestures such as head nods confirming menu selections.
