Rumba: It`s not our fault

provider (ISP) Rumba says it cannot be blamed if ISP yournet failed to pay a Telkom bill, leading to Rumba`s services being suspended.

Rumba subscribers have been without Internet access since last Thursday as a result of the yournet suspension. Rumba gets its connectivity from yournet. Telkom confirmed today that yournet`s connectivity was suspended as it failed to pay its account.

Hans van den Groenendaal, Telkom senior corporate communications specialist, says yournet did meet with Telkom yesterday, but did not meet its requirements. "Until they pay their bill, connectivity will not be restored," he says.

Charles Odendaal, Rumba marketing manager, says Rumba is not happy with the situation as it is being blamed for yournet`s dispute with Telkom.

"We recently became that there is a 'history` to the Telkom/yournet relationship and now the service has been suspended. We are therefore examining two other ISPs to provide us with connectivity, so that we can restore access to users," he says.

Odendaal says Rumba hopes it can continue its relationship with yournet in the future, but for the meantime it needs to find a solution that will provide customers with Internet access at the price they were originally paying or something close to that. He believes yournet is also trying to negotiate with other ISPs to restore connectivity to its users.

ITWeb could not reach Pieter Coetzee, yournet MD, for comment.
