SMS celebrates birthday
Britons send more than one billion text messages per week, an increase of 25% from last year, according to the latest figures from the Mobile Data Association, says Product Reviews.
Airwide Solutions, a provider of mobile messaging infrastructure and applications, is celebrating its role in delivering the first SMS via the Vodafone network in December 1992.
The message said 'Merry Xmas` and the man who sent it, Neil Papworth, still works for Airwide today.
Yahoo Messenger takes aim
Yahoo is introducing a beta version of its instant messaging application targeted at Filipinos, says Inquirer.
The beta Yahoo Messenger (YM) has been designed with an integrated media player, unlimited file transfer and several other personalisation tools.
The unlimited file transfer allows users to send any type of file of any size to other users. The files would also be scanned while being transferred as Yahoo has integrated the Symantec Norton Anti-Virus 2007 software into YM.
Sigaba announces release
