Low response to SITA e-health tender

Johannesburg, 26 Jul 2006

Only 16 companies submitted proposals for the e-health tender, estimated to be worth R500 million, to the State IT Agency (SITA). Originally, 29 firms responded to SITA's request for information (RFI) earlier this year.

"The request for proposals closed on 14 July, and 16 responses were received," says sourcing specialist at SITA, Johnson Dyodo.

The system will, according to the tender document, "provide a longitudinal collection of personal health information of a single individual, entered or accepted by providers and stored electronically".

Evaluation

No dates have been set for the awarding of the tender, or the expected duration of the evaluation process.

"The plan is to award the tender after evaluation, but this will be dependent on whether an acceptable solution is received and whether there are any surprises [in the bids]," Dyodo says.

Although another, unnamed, senior-level source within the organisation has indicated the project will cost "a minimum of half a billion rand", Dyodo refuses to comment on the likely value of the tender, or the average bid quoted to SITA.
