A range of voice over wireless LAN (VOWLAN) solutions is to be introduced to the market to capitalise on the deregulation of the telecommunications industry.
BCT Global, a wireless networking service provider, plans to use these solutions to offer clients the benefits of unified messaging and mobility.
Sadiq Malik, BCT`s business operations director, says the return on investment (ROI) benefits are easily quantifiable, as most organisations have separate telephone (voice) and data networks, which leads to staffing duplication and other additional costs which VOWLAN can change.
He says VOWLAN telephony offers enhancements in many job functions, such as sales, technical and maintenance support and other business-critical scenarios.
"Through the open application interface, unified messaging systems can be created that save staff time and save the company money," he says.
"Examples of how it can be used include executives accessing their e-mail through VOWLAN handsets or PDAs while they`re on the move, or call centre supervisors accessing statistics to see how many callers are waiting on the line, in order to quickly reassign agents."
Malik says deploying an effective VOWLAN solution requires specific expertise and access to proven products and technologies as the enablers.
"We`ve established the appropriate integration and engineering skills to provide standards-based, wireless networking and mobile computing solutions for voice and data communications throughout the enterprise and have partnerships and strategic alliances that will help us deliver results," he says.
He says bandwidth management, quality of service and security measures are critical to ensure success, as it is crucial to be able to clearly hear the person you are talking to without any interference or dropped calls.
"It may sound simple, but achieving these criteria can be a challenge without appropriate expertise and technologies," says Malik.
