Icanonline, the electronic platform, experienced a technical error on Friday afternoon, which resulted in six people`s personal information being mailed to a number of financial portal Moneymax newsletter subscribers.

Johan Strijdom, executive director of icanonline, says the problem is believed to have been in the mail server , which was used for the dual purpose of sending the Moneymax newsletter, and processing applications for a new BoE credit card that was recently added to the icanonline portfolio.

"One of the joys of dealing in electronic media is that things happen very quickly, so we picked up on the error on Friday afternoon, and had contacted the six applicants by Friday evening."

Strijdom says the six were "incredibly understanding" about the problem, and accepted the apology and offer of free banking for life that icanonline offered in recompense.

"We changed the way we handle the applications through Friday night and over the weekend," says Strijdom.

Icanonline, a joint venture between M-Web, BoE and NBS, has since received more than 500 applications for the BoE credit card, which is currently promoted on the site in conjunction with the giveaway of a two-day holiday.
