Johannesburg consulting firm 9th BIT Consulting has announced that it will be bringing StreamSets' Data Connector Edge (SDC Edge) software to the local market.
According to the firm, the conclusion of the deal makes 9th BIT Consulting the African partner for StreamSets, a San Francisco-based company.
Established in 2011, 9th BIT aids businesses with implementing service-oriented architecture solutions while StreamSets was established in 2014 to re-envision the management of data flows in companies from the ground up, avoiding the pitfalls of legacy offerings and enabling a new way to manage data in motion.
StreamSets received $20 million funding in a round co-led by New Enterprise Associates and Battery Ventures which the company said it will use to expand to North America, Africa and Europe.
Says Barry de Waal, chief executive of strategy and sales at 9th BIT: "Today, moving data reliably and with quality is blocked by the reality of data drift. SDC Edge delivers performance management tools for data flows that feed the next generation of big data applications. This includes the management of data in motion, ensuring data arrives in time and in so doing accelerates analysis and simplifying decision-making."
De Waal adds that the SDC Edge enables at-scale data ingestion and analytics for edge systems. "The product is an ideal solution for user cases like Internet of things (IOT) or cybersecurity applications that collect data from resource-constrained sensors and personal devices."
The SDC Edge is said to be ideal for small to medium enterprises, with SA being a gateway to enter other African markets.
Arvind Prabhakar, co-founder and chief technology officer at StreamSets, says the company is excited to offer the product to the SA market. "The massive volume of data created by the explosion of digital devices presents an invaluable opportunity for analytics and insight. However, harnessing this data for important efforts such as IOT and cyber security has been a challenge due to the lack of end-to-end data ingestion frameworks. We built SDC Edge to bring disciplined, well-managed data movement to huge populations of IOT sensors and personal devices so that the promised benefits of these critical initiatives are realised," he noted.
