The Coega Development Corporation (CDC) has appointed a consortium led by Accenture to develop the framework and roadmap for the Coega Industrial Development Zone`s (IDZ) information and communications technology (ICT) systems.
"The objective is to create an ICT-enablement roadmap in line with the development of a world-class IDZ which nonetheless recognises and takes into account the socio-economic aspects of the environment within which we operate," says Monde Mawasha, CDC project manager, ICT and e-business.
Accenture was awarded the R3.7 million contract in partnership with black-owned IT services company Cornastone and Nkonki, which has its origins in the Eastern Cape.
The Coega IDZ is being developed alongside the new deepwater port of Ngqura near Port Elizabeth. The developments are collectively referred to as the Coega Project.
Government investment into the Coega IDZ infrastructure development amounts to R2 billion, while electricity giant Eskom`s investment into the entire project totals R1.8 billion. The National Ports Authority`s investment of at least R3.2 billion is going into the development of the deepwater port.
