Accenture signs Fiat ICT deal

Consulting and outsourcing firm Accenture has signed a contract with Fiat Item, a subsidiary of Italian automaker Fiat Group SpA, to help the unit consolidate its information and communications technology, says BusinessWeek.

Fiat Item will outsource to Accenture activities that help support its human resources, finance and administrative functions. Terms of the contract were not specified.

US-traded shares of Accenture, which is incorporated in Ireland, fell 21c to $38.59 in morning trading on Friday.

Crisis drives 23% growth

Dubai Outsource Zone (DOZ) has revealed it has seen a 23% rise in clients so far in 2009 despite the impact of the global economic crisis, reports ArabianBusiness.

The first free zone in the world dedicated to the outsourcing industry, DOZ is already running at 100% occupancy, but hopes to add another 40 firms to its roster before the end of next year - bringing the total number of companies to 150.

“The crisis has bought a lot of benefit for us as previously companies were growing and outsourcing was not the main focus,” says executive director Ismail Al Naqi.

Potential high for Philippines BPO

The Philippines business process outsourcing industry (BPO) can raise revenues of up to $100 billion by 2020 by properly developing the talent pool and increasing the value chain of services, Indian outsourcing officials said this week, according to Inquirer.net.

Doctor Ganesh Natarajan, India's Zensar Technologies vice-chairman and chief executive, said the Philippines has a lot of potential to get a bigger slice of the BPO market, which was expected to grow at $1.5 trillion in the next 10 years - if the country would continue to “match its BPO personnel skills to industry demands”.

Natarajan said the Philippines, which ranks second in the global BPO space, should move up the value chain from voice and contact centres to knowledge process outsourcing services that entail analytical and logical products.
