COO Andy Baker has left Allied Technologies (Altech) to head up a private company, in which he has also taken an equity stake.
Baker has joined privately-owned digital printing and labelling company Kemtek Imaging Systems. He says the company aims to expand into other areas and is looking at acquisition opportunities.
Kemtek is involved in digital imaging for the printing industry and provides bar-coding technology. It also has a labelling division.
The company began trading in July 1988 and now operates from a head office in Johannesburg and branches in Pretoria, Durban and Cape Town. It sells to Africa and the Indian Ocean islands, through its Johannesburg and Pretoria branches, as well as distributors and subsidiaries in various African countries.
Baker says he invested in Kemtek as he was looking for a change of environment from the large corporate world, and the opportunity to invest was the deciding factor. He says the company is “very exciting”, and his new role is “very, very different”.
Bank has a stake in Kemtek and Baker says the bank, which is a good shareholder, has aggressive targets.
Baker left Altech two weeks ago, after four years of service. He originally joined as MD of Netstar, and was then promoted to COO, in January 2008, reporting directly to CEO Craig Venter. Altech has not informed the market that Baker had moved on.
The company was not immediately available this morning to indicate whether it had replaced Baker.
