Amplify WLAN performance with Netgear ProSafe AutoCell from Duxbury

Johannesburg, 09 May 2005

Netgear`s ProSafe 802.11g Wireless Access Point WG302 and ProSafe WAG511 Wireless PC Card now both feature Propagate Network`s AutoCell feature. The AutoCell system enables South African users to enhance wireless LAN performance in high density and high interference deployments.

Distributed by Duxbury Networking, the AutoCell-enabled Netgear ProSafe wireless system mitigates the impact of RF interference by utilising resident devices. These devices are embedded with cognitive radio software that monitors the airwaves and tune channels when interference is detected. Such automated RF management results in substantial boosts in aggregate throughput achieved across the WLAN.

Indeed, it is a well-known fact that end stations connected to wireless LANs achieve about half the stated bandwidth of the technology used. The mix of access points and the overlapping RF footprints cause radio interference, which affect throughput efficiency.

The WG302 with AutoCell recently offered a 400% increase in throughput efficiency for TCP, UDP, streaming traffic and HTTP Web traffic in a test network. Additionally, the WG302 complies with industry set security standards for wireless data encryption, user authentication and authorisation.

In addition, Netgear`s ProSafe 802.11g WG302 supports the IEEE 802.3af standard PoE. "Power over Ethernet enables the WG302 to be powered via Ethernet cable plugged into a switch port matching the PoE standard, eliminating extra cables and the need for power outlet proximity, with the added advantage of ease and flexibility of the unit placement," says Andy Robb, technology specialist at Duxbury Networking.

The compatible ProSafe WAG511 wireless PC Card top works in conjunction with the WG302 and key features include:

* Universal compatibility with IEEE 802.11a/b/g
* Up to 108Mbps in turbo mode
* Autocell Rapid Roaming & Load Balancing
* WiFi Protected Access (WPA) 802.11i-ready
