Appliance supports large deployments

RFID infrastructure software provider GlobeRanger's new appliance bundles software for RFID network-edge processing, workflows and applications into hardware intended to support multisite installations, says RFID Update.

The new Smart Network Appliance Product (SNAP) is based on the company's iMotion platform for RFID data management application development.

SNAP supports multiple network protocols and has six ports to integrate RFID readers, sensors and other devices.

Scotland to boast best smart card system

A smart-card ticketing system allowing people to use trains, buses and ferries throughout Scotland with one integrated card will be introduced in time for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, says The Herald.

Stewart Stevenson, minister for Transport, said the cashless ticketing would ensure Scotland had one of the most sophisticated public transport systems in Europe.

"The eyes of the world will be on Scotland in 2014 and it is vital we have a sophisticated, effective ticketing system in place which provides genuine ease of access across our transport networks," he said.

Heathrow Express rids queues

Customers buying Heathrow Express tickets will be issued with a bar code that can be scanned on the train, eliminating the need for queuing for tickets, says Travel Mole.

The bar code will either be sent by text to the traveller's cellphone or they will receive it by e-mail.

Travel management company Carlson Wagonlit Travel is one of the first business travel agencies to sign up to the technology.
