Altech subsidiary Altech Technology Concepts (ATC) has partnered with global centre and ICT services provider Telehouse to handle its centre operations.

The partnership will allow ATC to focus its converged voice and offerings as it seeks to take on large players in the space, such as Internet Solutions and MWeb. Telehouse will manage ATC's data centre operations, and also gives the Altech subsidiary access to international connectivity through its global presence.

Telehouse offers data centre facilities and connectivity and has a network of 40 vendor-neutral data centres in 10 countries. It was established in 1988 and serves more than 1 000 customers globally.

The global company is a subsidiary of Japanese corporation KDDI, which has an international group of data centres and offers a global network covering Europe, America and Asia Pacific.

ATC CEO Wayne de Nobrega explains ATC decided to outsource the data centre operations to free itself of taking care of aspects such as security, cooling and power. ATC will focus on its core operation, which is providing business communication services and solutions on its network, he says.

Global reach

De Nobrega adds the outsourcing partnership gives ATC access to global converged services and access to KDDI's infrastructure and resources. The deal also allows it to offer data centre services quicker than if it had built a physical data centre, he says.

“It makes sense to have a partner who can manage our data centres while we focus on the network, and the products and services provided on top of that foundation,” says De Nobrega.

He says ATC has seen exponential growth in the uptake of its offerings since launch. It is now pushing hard to grow its customer base and take on the bigger players in the sector.

Telehouse will facilitate communication and connectivity from ATC's point of presence (POP) in Telehouse London to the rest of the world. De Nobrega says more POPs will be added as required, which will aid ATC in growing nationally and globally.

“As our network grows, ATC will need the international contacts and expertise provided by Telehouse,” says De Nobrega. “It's far more beneficial for us and our customers to use one expert service provider as opposed to 10 different ones.”

ATC will also become Telehouse's local provider of choice for connectivity, managed services and managed networks in southern Africa, particularly for international companies linking into the country.
