The International Olympic Committee has chosen Atos Origin as its IT partner for this year`s Olympics in Athens, following the success of the infrastructure built for the 2002 Winter Games by SchlumbergerSema, acquired by Atos Origin earlier this year.

"We plan to use Athens as a springboard to develop business around the world," says Bernard Bourigeaud, visiting Atos Origin group CEO. "During the August Olympics we plan to make contact with existing and potential customers from around the world."

Bourigeaud recently told media representatives in Johannesburg that Atos Origin will be responsible for making sure all results and other information is available in real time to the international journalistic corps.

"Atos Orgin has already begun building an IT infrastructure in Athens to handle various systems including results reporting, press accreditation, vital telemetry, and ," says Bourigeaud. "An initial crew of 200 is in place, growing to double that at full strength, but complemented by around 3000 IT volunteers."

Jean Chevallier, Olympic executive VP, says the infrastructure provided by Atos Origin will play an absolutely critical role in ensuring over three billion people around the world can share in the sporting action.

"Delivering the Games to the world is a challenging brief, so Atos Origin has meticulously prepared for Athens based on the experiences of SchlumbergerSema at the Salt Lake City Games."

The Athens IT infrastructure is expected to be three times larger than the Winter Olympics which included facilities for live media feeds around the world, 90 0000 email addresses, and a 24-hour call centre.
