Avaya acquires certain Cyber IQ Systems assets to offer additional data networking solutions

By Avaya
Johannesburg, 12 Mar 2001

Avaya Inc, a global leader in business communications solutions and services, has further strengthened its portfolio of networking products by acquiring some networking products from Cyber IQ Systems, which is based in San Jose, California.

The products will be positioned in two key areas - security, and context-aware switching, both of which are critical issues for businesses, particularly as they build their networks. The secure socket layer (SSL) acceleration technology increases secure e-site capacity. Context-aware switching enables switches to automatically make routing decisions that improve speed and performance.

Businesses typically use the CyberIQ systems Avaya purchased in their data centres to provide better performance and scalability, including fast response and more security for their web servers.

"CyberIQ`s products are a natural fit into our data networking offers," said Mun Yuen Leong, chief technology officer, Avaya. "Acquiring these assets is a next step in building our security portfolio for our customers."

Terms of the purchase were not disclosed.

Avaya recently acquired VPNet Technologies Inc., an award-winning provider of virtual private networks and services. Both the VPNet and CyberIQ agreements strengthen Avaya`s portfolio of data products for businesses.

The products Avaya acquired from CyberIQ include:

  • HyperCommerce, a layer 7, URL/cookie-persistent load-balancing, context-aware appliance that offers smart, secure transaction switching and provides a highly available, fast and scalable e-business infrastructure solution;

  • CyberSSL, a server appliance that offloads cryptographic algorithms at record-breaking speeds. CyberSSL can handle 1520 transactions per second and more than 600 HTTPS requests per second; and

  • Monster SSL, a highly scalable SSL accelerator card that is incorporated in both products.
