Avaya Inc, a leading global provider of communications networks and services for businesses, today announced that its SYSTIMAX GigaSPEED XL Solution has been named `Network Cabling System of the Year` at the 2003 Networking Industry Awards.
A panel of judges from the networking industry including leading magazines such as Network Cabling News and Network Computing, and BICSI (Building Industry Consulting Service International) selected Avaya`s system as the winning entry.
The decision was based on the system`s design excellence and high-performance that underpins organisations` communications infrastructures such as those for Avaya`s customers, BAE SYSTEMS and BP.
The award was presented to John McCarthy, managing director for Avaya`s Connectivity Solutions business in Northern Europe, at a gala dinner on the first day of the Networks for Business event. More than 800 guests from the industry attended the event, held in the Hilton Metropole Hotel at the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham in the UK.
Commenting on the award, McCarthy said: "We are delighted that the extensive research and development from Avaya Labs that went into making the SYSTIMAX GigaSPEED XL system a world leader, has been acknowledged by this award. Structured cabling has a central role to play in the future of networking and business communication - particularly as voice and data converges."
Jane Murphy, Networks for Business Portfolio Director, commented on behalf of the judges: "Avaya`s SYSTIMAX GigaSPEED XL Solution won the award for two reasons. Firstly, through research, design and development, the performance of the system had been enhanced significantly - and is way ahead of what was thought attainable a few years ago. Secondly, the benefits of the system have been proven in organisations such as BAE SYSTEMS and BP."
The publications sponsoring the 2003 awards include: Network Computing, European Reseller, ZD Net, Communicate, Network Cabling News, Networking, Storage, silicon.com and Linux User & Developer. The aim of the awards is to recognise the best individuals and companies in every field of networking for innovation and achievement in their use of technology.
The success of the SYSTIMAX GigaSPEED XL system is due to its superior connector and cable design and improved manufacturing precision that have increased dramatically the performance of copper cabling for organisations. New modal decomposition and simulation techniques developed at Avaya Labs were used in the development of the GigaSPEED XL system. With significant improvement in all key electrical parameters, such as ACR, NEXT, PSNEXT, ELFEXT and Return Loss, the GigaSPEED XL system provides improved performance for organisations beyond the Category 6/Class E industry-standard specification as well as additional design and installation flexibility. 41 patents have been granted on innovations that have helped the GigaSPEED XL system achieve a breakthrough in copper cabling performance.
