BEA Systems' SOA dismantled?

It would seem that BEA Systems' AquaLogic service oriented architecture (SOA) business, assembled through a multimillion-dollar M&A splurge, is being dismantled, says The Register.

The Register has learned from individuals close to the company that BEA's new owner, Oracle, is merging the AquaLogic and WebLogic professional service teams.

Oracle is also splitting the AquaLogic products between 'Web products' and AquaLogic business process management.

New Toronto CIO rebuilds tech

A Web site redesign complete with Web 2.0 capabilities is just one of the projects the City of Toronto's first CIO has added to his plate in just over a year on the job, says InterGovWorld.com.

David Wallace joined the City of Toronto after a stint as the CTO for the province of Ontario, and he said he has noticed some major differences in the way his role has an impact on users.

Wallace said the Web site redesign will follow the development of a new enterprise architecture that will create more standardisation across the technology used within Canada's largest municipality.

Cybercity chooses Red Hat

Cybercity has selected Red Hat's JBoss Enterprise SOA Platform for the provisioning of public switched telephone network (PSTN) customers, says CBR Online.

In the future, the JBoss Enterprise SOA Platform will serve as a link between systems such as the CRM/customer support client, backend BSS/billing system, external partners, ISP platforms and the actual network itself.

The SOA platform will be used for point-to-point integration, as well as to expose systems as reusable services. As experience with the initial deployments is obtained, further use of the platform is expected.
