CPM goes a step further

New corporate performance management (CPM) business models combine () and business process management (BPM), adding new value to both, says SAP Info.

According to the article, CPM ensures business processes can be measured while they are running, making it easier to monitor and control. CPM also enables business to build intelligence in to processes to enable to respond to market change.

CPM goes a step further than standard BI by assigning specific variables to each process, enabling companies to measure to what extent goals are being met as well as monitor process performance continually.

BI platform open-sourced

The ObjectWeb Consortium has announced the inclusion of a BI platform in the organisation`s open source stack.

Computer World says a systems integrator in Rome, Engineering Ingegneria Informatica, is contributing SpagoBI, a BI platform built on the Spago J2EE framework.

ObjectWeb says SpagoBI is a unified BI platform that is now available in open source and can be downloaded from Engineering Ingegneria`s Web site.

SpagoBI can be used to build reports and dashboards using data mining, query by example and online analytical processing techniques, all accessible over an intranet using thin clients.

CIF adapts to new business environment

Intelligent Solutions and BI Research have announced that they have teamed up to extend the Corporate Information Factory (CIF) developed in 1998 by data warehousing pioneers Bill Inmon and Claudia Imhoff.

The companies say CIFe was developed in response to the changes in business and technology requirements for business intelligence in the past seven years such as customer and supply chain management initiatives as well as new legislative requirements.

The development work involved merging and extending the concepts of the existing CIF with an earlier version of the Smart BI Framework developed by BI Research.

The objective of CIFe is to provide a BI environment for delivering consistent and high quality information to IT applications and business users. The Smart BI Framework integrates the business performance environment provided by CIFe with plans, processes and people.
