SA`s fledgling biotechnology industry is aiming to consolidate its place in the market through an audit of the biotechnology sector.

eGoli BIO (Biotechnology Incubator Organisation), acting on behalf of the Department of Science and Technology, is calling for proposals from prospective commercial and technology in a public-private sector partnership for the undertaking.

"The point of this audit is to establish a comprehensive database of all the biotechnology companies in SA as well as research that is being conducted. This will provide us with a baseline that can be updated regularly to give an idea of growth and development within this sector," says Paul Abrahams, CEO of eGoli BIO.

Describing eGoli BIO as a biotechnology business incubator, which is part of the government`s strategy to further develop the biotechnology sector, he says the main aim of this non-profit organisation is to commercialise successful research and development, resulting in a viable business prospect with products or services reaching the market.

The final date for proposals is Friday, 14 February at midday.

Detailed terms of reference regarding the proposed audit can be obtained from eGoli BIO. Contact Abrahams at info@egolibio.co.za.
