Borland spins off tools group

Borland is to spin off its Developer Tools Group into a wholly-owned subsidiary, named CodeGear, instead of selling it as originally planned, reports JavaWorld.

The report says the change in plan was prompted by Borland not receiving any substantial offers for its tools division. Borland said in a statement it decided to go the subsidiary route in the best interests of customers, shareholders and employees.

The CodeGear subsidiary will be responsible for advancing the four product lines formerly associated with the company's IDE business: Developer Studio, JBuilder, Turbo and Interbase.
