CA focuses on IT management

CA is refocusing its varied selection of enterprise software around enterprise IT management, including managing the virtualised environment, says Information Week.

Long known for its CA-Unicenter systems management software and other products, CA is now focused on enabling customers to "govern, manage, and secure their IT environments," said Roger Pilc, senior VP of the data centre automation and infrastructure management business unit.

In support of enterprise IT management, CA launched three new products and enhanced five existing ones.

Need for proactive IT management grows

Aternity, a provider of end-user experience management solutions, recently conducted a survey of more than 70 senior IT and line-of-business professionals to find out what their priorities are this year, says TCMNet.

Topping the list of front-of-mind issues for survey respondents was pre-emptive problem detection. More than 35% of survey participants said their top priority during 2008 is heading off IT problems before they affect end-users and/or business productivity.

Unfortunately, all too often problems are not proactively prevented. More than 73% of respondents to Aternity's survey indicated that 10%-75% of IT problems aren't detected by the IT department at all, but instead are discovered by end-users.

Symantec manages compliance

Symantec has added a significant update to its compliance process automation solution, Control Compliance Suite 9.0, says CNN Money.

Symantec Control Compliance Suite provides customers with the ability to automate key IT compliance processes in order to reduce the risk to their information assets and reduce the costs of managing compliance.

Increasingly, IT management is being called on to align with business objectives amid shrinking budgets.
