At the helm of Computer Associates International (CA) for less than a month, CEO Ken Cron says the company is entering a new chapter that promises to deliver continued innovation in software solutions.
"Computer Associates is strong and ready to move ahead," Cron told the opening session of CA World in Las Vegas this week.
He alluded briefly to the investigation into past accounting practices that saw the redeployment of former CEO Sanjay Kumar as the company`s chief software architect to assume the role of guiding product strategy. Cron told delegates from 80 countries at the tenth annual CA World event that he hoped the matter would be resolved shortly. "I have committed CA to the highest standards of fiscal discipline," he added, reiterating CA was ready to move forward.
Having consigned the recent challenges at CA firmly to the past, Cron said CA would continue to focus on customers and work to improve customer relations. He also identified relationships with channel partners as being a top priority for 2004, with special attention being placed on the CA "One Partner" programme.
"CA is committed to being a leader in managing integration of heterogeneous environments," Cron declared. "As part of that commitment, CA has worked hard to deliver an enterprise software management suite aimed at lowering total cost of ownership."
He said the CA product set achieved that through enabling chief information officers to simplify, manage, and increase utilisation of complex and heterogeneous IT infrastructures.
"We are in the age of management software, and CA is at the forefront of the revolution," Cron told delegates. "Management software is the CIO`s secret weapon because it is a cost-effective way of maximising the power of resources."
Cron said management software was one of the major software development areas where vendor consolidation had yet to take place. "Management software is still an open field, but CA is out in front."
