Stellenbosch-based Indutech has released what it describes as the world`s first software solution to tackle HIV/AIDS in the workplace. The solution, EDEN for HIV/AIDS, is to be rolled out soon in the automotive industry.
The Automotive Industry Development Centre recently became the first buyer and will now set about implementing the programme in the automotive industry, which is the country`s largest manufacturing sector and employs over 250 000 people.
Indutech is a venture company that commercialises and markets EDEN software initiated and developed by Stellenbosch University`s Global Competitiveness Centre. The EDEN for HIV/AIDS programme was developed in conjunction with various HIV consultancies following consultation with automotive industry suppliers.
Indutech CEO Prof Niek du Preez says the programme will provide the industry with practical and user-friendly software for step-by-step implementation, through various components that form a comprehensive HIV workplace programme. These include a commencement cycle including a situation analysis, assessments, policy and strategy, and an intervention cycle including programmes, training, wellness, care and support.
Du Preez says the programme, which has already been tested extensively in SA, is also being rolled out to other business sectors with large numbers of employees. "Companies using the programme will have a competitive advantage, as they will be able to act timeously and professionally in managing HIV/AIDS in the workplace," he says.
Indutech intends to make the software available internationally, with the first international editions catering for motor industry needs in Asia, South America and Eastern Europe.
